glock-ccordian

Time has wings. What do I have to talk about? Our Listening Party at the Children’s Museum is approaching even faster (Feb 2nd). We are going to be on CKMS 100.3 at 11:00 am, on Friday the 1st, (KLP’s Sideshow Continuum). Doing an interview and some acoustic adaptations of songs off our new CD (At the Command of the Blanket Sky). All kinds of shakers, tambourines, glockenspiels and what not. There are also 2 shows coming up. Feb 6th at the SLC and the 7th at eBar in Guelph. That is everything compacted into a ball of words, roughly the size of a young monkey’s fist.

What the hell is a Listening Party?

Interesting events are unfolding beneath us. Yesterday we were given the ‘low down’ and ‘walk through’ of the Children’s Museum. This is where we are having our Listening Party for, you guessed it ‘At the Command of the Blanket Sky’. It is February 2nd, Cash bar (that’s right). Pretty much a party so we can talk about ourselves. Blah, blah, blah. Do a lot of name dropping, try to look cool (but not quite pull it off). Talk and yammer and …. You get the picture.. smiles, nods. Sniff some butts. Have our butts sniffed (if we are lucky) and drink. But no.. really I do hope a lot of people show, and we can have a good time. Listen and wonder with fear and amazement what it all means. I am not really sure myself. A large finished product is a strange animal. It would be nice to celebrate it’s birth, whether it’s a beautiful bird, or a reproachable monster.. either way, it is ours, and we will let you look in the cage.. maybe give it a pat on the head. All I ask is that you will drink several beverages, eat some finger foods, and discuss what kind of shots it might need. Veterinary care, perches, scratching posts…you get the idea.

Last night we rehearsed some live video projection that melds with our songs. Our friend Jamie has some very cool ideas. Perhaps something that might happen at the Horseshoe CD release show? I am not sure… nope not sure… but definitely curious.

Babble, babble, babble.

anvil no more

So I didn’t post at all during recording. Perhaps I am a deadbeat. Perhaps my head has been other places. Perhaps this is me making excuses. It is pretty much done. A somewhat life changing event. What will I do with myself? No longer bobbing my head to the unending rhythm of Emeri’s drum edits. No longer squeezing my eyes shut and cursing the compressors wondering… what is making it sound like that? Does it sound how I think it sounds? Am I imagining this? Where are my pants? Is this how it will sound everywhere else? No, no, no, surely not. Tomorrow we do the final tweaks. It will then be as done as it can get before I hold a pressed copy in my hands. Touching isn’t it? Sniff, sniff, honk.

We have a show coming up with a K/W group called Lucky Stabb. This show is at The Blue Moon in Petersburg, on January 26th. It will be nice to hit the stage again. Refreshed. No longer dragging our unfinished album like an anvil on a rope. Sweet release. I am looking forward to seeing Lucky Stabb. It is so nice to hook up with other indie K-dubbers. Especially to invade the surrounding smaller towns with our devil music and heavy metal posturing. BLOOD! … no.. more like.. coffee and video games?

Verbal diarrhea

At the Command of the Blanket Sky

Well we've finished the new album ("At the Command of the Blanket Sky"), and started posting a new song from it every 2 days on the internet (myspace or facebook: pick your poison).

Honestly, I thought it would be a breath of fresh air after we were done mixing... and now I'm realizing that I'll have to hold my breath for a little longer because there's still work to be done!

Artwork for the cd, promotion, blah blah blah (don't want to sound whiny).

But I can say that I am excited to start playing shows again and getting back into the groove of the live band.

We have some shows coming up in the near future, and would love to see anyone and everyone attend. (see link to preferred poison up top ^ )

This is Henry... signing off.

and happy new year

trying not to lose focus in the final moments of this project.

after spending a year on and off on this beast i tend to have good and bad days with it. in the end there is only neutral. it is what it is. i think we all want to hasten the recording process next time around. Of course without damaging the quality of the final product. Every record so far has been a huge and increasingly intense learning experience. Next time around I feel like we probably could start and finish the next project within a smaller window.

the saving grace is that now we get to go out and perform these songs, and hopefully for people who want to see them performed. that is one of the truly exciting parts of music. the collective experience. a chance to breathe new life into the songs and start writing again.

we're aiming to have it all ready for packaging by the 7th. that should put it in our hands for the end of the month. deadlines seem to be pretty publicly pointless with us, but they must serve some psychological purpose within the band or else we'd likely just terminate the use of them.

hey and by the way. we've been mixing in Qatalyst magazine's basement for the last month. check them out.

Transforming...

So you will never believe this... we are on the second last song!
There is light at the end of this tunnel.
There will be dates going up on the sites once they are all confirmed. I will be very glad to have this finished and out and playing shows again.

We are all pretty happy with these songs, and I think we might be touching on some "different" subjects on this record. I am not going to get into details about it really, but I just hope everyone can get what they want out of this... musically and lyrically.

Saying that, I recently have been told about a movie (thanks Kevin) and I think everyone that reads this should take the time and check it out. I know these days everyone gets their back up and are skeptical of most things... you know what I mean, from Politics to Africa to Wars and even Transformers... like really...are we really supposed to believe that these guys actually came from another planet to save us from the Decepticons?
Anyways, I think this is a good thing...people should be questioning a lot of or even most of today’s shit that has been force fed to us through what ever medium. And I ask that you have the same outlook when watching or reading or listening to anything or anyone.

Now at the same time don’t close your eyes and put the blinders on to the outlets that are there. Have an open mind and then question it…you never know…there might be more than meets the eyes….I’m sorry I had to…

what do you WANT?!?!

we're mixing beckoning.

sounding pretty boomy.

the shitty thing about recording a song numerous times.

some aspects of each are always best. combining is rarely an option. for us at least.

when can i be ALONE?!?!

our mixing schedule is pretty intense.

get up. get in van. drive to studio. mix. mix. mix. go 'home'. get up. repeat.

it seems to be working so far. though as the week progresses the number of audible sighs definitely increases.

right now the thought of another week makes my sanity shudder. im hoping this feeling will pass.

things're sounding pretty good though.

more updates from the front this week.

help.....

I am locked in a basement with three guys and a Cock (some of which have not bathed in days or even weeks) given nothing but Scraps.....
If you can hear my screams please come and get me.....I need to shave....

The album is DONE! ...just kidding soon though....soon.
It's sounding good....it almost masks the smell of B.O and smelly Cock....well....almost.
So I am guessing someone will eventually come and get us from this dark smelly place being that we have a show on the 14th of December at The Elmo with The Dunes and Big Ideas... which should be a good time. We haven't played the Elmo for a while...
Anyways... sorry this shit is taking so long I promise it'll be worth the wait???? ....
